4♠ is the best bid. This is the contract that is most likely to make, even if Partner only has 4 spades. Also, you will be able to ruff hearts with the short hand, avoiding being overwhelmed.

3NT may be the right contract if Partner has the king of diamonds and AQ of clubs, and more generally as soon as the spades break very poorly.

Passing is only good if the contract makes exactly 9 tricks. Playing one level higher and losing an additional 50 points does not make a big difference in IMPs. Moreover, it is likely that you will make 10 tricks, thus depriving yourself of the game bonus. It is always pleasant to make a tough game or to fail with the satisfaction of having tried.

10/20

This bid indicates ambitions for slam and you will probably end up in a bad contract at the 5-level, or worse… Even if your partner holds ♠AKQxx, you have not yet reached the end of the adventures. Moreover, he would certainly have bid 4♠ directly over your double with this type of hand.

    • I think pass is underrated at MPs at imps I would bid what I expect to be a tight game and be pleased to make it at MPs with AKQ,spades KJ diamonds and AQJ clubs all missing not to mention heart honours and a passed partner at MPs I would be happy with a plus score on board
