Sitting South what would your next bid be?
Nachiketa Muthuswamy’s answers

2♦ is certainly the correct bid here. Once the spade fit is found, the singleton heart can be accounted for as an additional value. Moreover, the 6 diamonds are likely to be a second suit that can help generate many tricks due to its length. Whatever partner bids next, you can bid 4♠ as the optimum game contract. By bidding 2♦ followed by 4♠, you will show good diamonds and a game-going hand.
20/20 ✅

2NT (if it is an invitational bid showing 3-card support in spades)
Although you are accurately showing your 10 high-card points to your partner, the hand should be upgraded to a game-going hand due to its distribution. Even though your partner is obliged to bid again, you are not properly describing your hand. Your hand is made to play in 4♠—do not show an invitational hand.
15/20

This bid typically shows a weak pre-emptive hand with 5-card support. Although this is likely to be the final contract, your partner may choose to pass with a very strong hand that may lead to you both missing a slam. The principle of fast arrival must be followed with much weaker hands than this and such a bid may therefore misinform your partner about your real holding.
10/20

This is a gross underbid that prevents your partner from bidding game, even with an intermediate hand. At most, partner can perceive you to have 9 total points. Thus, this bid is totally incorrect and should be avoided.

Thank goodness you, Nachicheta, I found your analysis very helpful.

What about a splinter bid off 4H?
Splinter promises 4 trump,
Great! I would have bid 2 Diamonds!
Jnteresting idea. A slam invite ifyour hand not to weak. For slam bid you need good diamonds and at least 16 -18 HPC in the opening hand. It might work IMO.

Playing 2/1 GF, 1NT forcing. Over 2♠️ (shows 6) bid 4♠️. Over 2♣️ or 2♥️ bid 3♠️ limit raise with 3 card support.
Correct bid 2 diamond.
2 diamond is also my option. Correct evaluation!
2 Diamonds for sure correct . My choice as well. But splinter 4 Hearts above is an interesting idea. A slam invite (if the hand not to weak). For slam bid you need good diamonds and at least 16 -18 HPC in the opening hand. It might work IMO.

good thinking!
jI would prefer the splinter. 2 honors with 3 card support looks good to me. If you have the agreeement that splinter is 4 cards then 2 D. I dislike the diamond with the A and then nought though.
I resisted the temptation to overthink it — 2♦ it was
What about bidding 3 spades? It would let your partner the the game-biding option
My opinion, too. One can reach this hand only three times. If one has to eliminate the trump tree times there will be only on card left – the Ace of diamonds to reach this hand.
3S is a good alternative, I think. A 2d bid can also provide your opponents w more info than you may want to give. The ‘Keep your cards close to your hands’ approach.
Agree, it shows a fit in spades and invites game
2 diamonds is the correct bid. The way to 4 spades is open.
i would bid 2 diamonds
Good question! I would have gone for 2d.
Hey Nachiketa, thanks again for the bid discussion! Question, Would a 3S alternative work in certain situations? Say you know your opponent reads the bidding well and counts cards really well too. Would a 2d bid provide the opponents w more info than you may want to give? In other words, the question being, do I give my partner more info versus providing opponents more info? Best
I agree 2D is the correct bid, but when I play Funbridge tournaments sometimes Argine leaves me in 2D.
Thanks for the exercise. My question is why dont you talk about the 3 Spades answer? My first choice would be 3 Spades because the information is more precise for me and less for the oponents. Regards Bully
For me, 3 Spades would be the best option to inform and invite my partner, and not informing too much the oponents. Specially if actually the best final bid would be 4 Spades
Isn’t the convention relevant?
I would bid 3D
2 Diamonds showing long diamonds with an aim to bid 4 Spades next bid describing the hand perfectly
For those suggesting 3S, surely it is not a forcing bid ?
Must force with 2D.
Is biding 2d is the right order and does partner must understand your hand is fitted as well
Playing 2/1 GF, 1NT forcing. Over 2♠️ (shows 6) bid 4♠️. Over 2♣️ or 2♥️ bid 3♠️ limit raise with 3 card support.
2D
1 NT followed by 4 S
Excellent hand.
I bid 2D despite playing 2/1
